A woman identified as Mama Chichi has reportedly died of severed burns from kerosene explosion. The incident occurred on Tuesday, June 12 at Evbuotubu Market in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State.
Mama ChichI was a kerosene dealer, and she was said to have purchased the product from operators of illegal refineries in the State. According to the eyewitnesses, the woman decided to confirm whether the kerosene was original by lighting a match over the gallon containing the product, when suddenly an explosion occurred. Two persons that stood closely were seriously burnt, and it also affected some shops when the explosion caused inferno.
One of the eyewitnesses who gave her as Patience told the Punch newspaper Reporter, that it was the man who sold the adulterated product to the victim that advised her to test it when the woman was in doubt whether it was genuine kerosene. The man was said to have fled immediately the kerosene exploded. Fellow traders said Mama Chichi died in a hospital.
However, the Director of the Edo state Fire service,Mr. Franklyn Agbonlahor denied that anyone died in the explosion. He said, the police had commenced investigation.
