Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki
Some of the suspects of the April bank robbery at Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria have named Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and the State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed as sponsors of the heinous crimes that led to the deaths of 33 people including nine police. A gang leader, Ayoade Akinnibosun who spoke on behalf of the others said the weapons used by them to carry out the operation were given to them by these indicted prominent politicians. They confessed that they were political thugs for the politicians who sponsored them with firearms, money and operational vehicles.
On the basis of the indictment, the police had invited the Senate President and the Governor to come and explain their roles or clear themselves of the allegation. The pertinent question is whether this indictment is politically motivated. Was the confession of the suspects who indicted these politicians given voluntarily? Were the suspects tortured to confess?
As expected, the indicted persons have reacted by expressing the shock that they could be linked to this type of crime or any crime at all. The indicted politicians said it was the handiwork of political enemies with the intention to destroy their reputations.
Whatever is the case, the general public is waiting for the outcome of the allegation against the Governor and the Senate President.
